Hayden James ‘Something About You’ (now signed to Virgin EMI from Future Classic)

HaydenJames_NickBowers_Shot1_300dpiCasino-style clubs and giant raves might seem the yardsticks de jour for electronic music artists in the US, but hearing your music on the radio while driving through America is a moment still enjoyed by a select few. It’s a club now joined by Australian artist Hayden James, though, when en route to Coachella his song ‘Something About You’ emerged from the car stereo.

Signed to Virgin EMI from Australia’s leading independent imprint, Future ClassicHayden James’ ‘Something About You’ has so far notched up over 10 million online streams (with support from leading YouTube channel, The Sound You Need), hit high rotation on specialist and commercial radio across Australia, and made the leap to daytime US radio. A highlight of both Coachella weekends, and one of the anthems for the forthcoming Ibiza season, expect this to be one of the tunes of summer 2015.

Tipped as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s hottest talents, Hayden James’ growing list of achievements is impressive: sold-out headline live shows in Australia, a 15 date headline North America tour (plus his Coachella debut), Hype Machine No.1s, and support slots with ODESZA. But, grand stats aside, its on record and live onstage where you’ll find the real magic in his (increasingly) French-touch inspired sound.

Currently putting the finishing touches to his debut album, James is influenced by artists including Jamie xx, Caribou, Daft Punk, SBTRKT, James Blake, and Toro Y Moi. He grew up in Sydney and cut his teeth on the local club scene, where he quickly became known as one of the city’s rising stars.

The Balearic pop of his debut track, ‘Permission To Love’, helped him scale the busy heights of the booming Australian electronic scene and to the pinnacle of the Hype M chart. An EP and a slew of remixes (Dillon Francis, ODESZA, RÜFÜS) later, and James had further established himself as a mainstay on both the Australian and international touring circuits.

SHIFT K3Y Releases Official ‘Name & Number’ Remix EP Out May 19th On Ultra Music

Since Shift K3Y’s explosive 2014 debut single ‘Touch,’ a #3 charting single on the UK pop charts, the 21-year-old multitalented performer, DJ, producer, vocalist, and instrumentalist has had a whirlwind trajectory into the electronic, pop, and R&B music stratosphere. Once he took to the decks himself, Skrillex and Diplo were early supporters, the former taking him on the ‘Takeover’ tour around the US. With over 200K records sold with ‘Touch’ alone, Shift has established himself as a go-to hitmaker remixing the likes of Tinie TempahTove Lo and Iggy Azalea. Identifying Shift’s status as a classically trained musician, with a soulful and vast knowledge beyond his years, has already brought him into the studio with icons like Chaka Khan, DJ Mustard, and Robin Thicke who will be featured on his forthcoming debut LP. Of meeting the funk queen Khan in LA to record his song “Gone Missing,” he says: “It was the most intensely amazing experience of my life.”
Before we get a listen to his star-studded album, Shift K3Y has released a one-off single featuring his own vocals and producation that Insomniac describes as “dripping-hot, sweat-inducing,”- “Name & Number.” The single has already dominated the club scene charting at #6 on the UK dance charts. Idolator describes the track as “sparkling uptempo with slinky vocals and thumping bass that will have your feet moving on the dancefloor.” He’s not done there. He has now enlisted a group of his most talented (and buzzworthy) friends including Wax Motif, Chloe Martini, Cause & Affect, Mike Mago, and Kideko to throw a new twist onto his dancefloor anthem. We also will hear Shift remix his own work on the EP upon the EP’s release May 19th via Ultra Records.
