DIRTYBIRD Celebrates 10 Years: Compilation with New Music From Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Shiba San + More. Out Jan 27th

Ten years is a long time for an independent label to survive in music, let alone thrive, but since its inception, DIRTYBIRD has done just that.

House and techno with influences from hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass & funk, DIRTYBIRD’s releases have blazed a path and created their own genre.  Over the years, “Sounds like a DIRTYBIRD track” has become a definitive explanation for house music that is fun with lots of bass. Even now in this crowded landscape a DIRTYBIRD release still feels a little bit special, not surprising, given that each and every release, even those from long-time dirtybird cohorts, still have to pass Claude VonStroke’s rigorous quality control.

It’s been a wild ten years for DIRTYBIRD. From impromptu illegal parties in Golden Gate Park, to dedicated stages at enormous festivals, the label has created a great sense of camaraderie amongst its fans.  The label artists are a family that shares a core group of values, never frowning, always down to grab a beer and help dish up some BBQ. These vibes are what define DIRTYBIRD – it’s a place to get loose with pals and dance to really, really good music.

In Claude VonStroke’s own words:

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate DIRTYBIRD’s 10 year anniversary than by releasing 14 great tracks that I fully support. There’s no fluff in here. Everyone from our amazing talent pool has delivered their A game material. And l have also added a few great new names to the family.

It’s hard to believe that this little project started in my bedroom in the Lower Haight, San Francisco 10 years ago. I can distinctly remember hand stamping vinyl promos at home with my friend Fernando and trying to figure out the best way to mail them to Europe.  I remember the very first guy to ever call me back about our music was Edgar Dirksen in Frankfurt, Germany, who was working at a now defunct distributor called Neuton.  This was the only place that would agree to sell our records back in 2005 and I still thank him for taking the chance on us.

There have been many many people involved since the beginning. Special thanks to all who have helped me run the shop at different times such as my wife Aundy, Mike Bosley, Christian Martin, Adam Carter, Sharen Norden, Bryan James, Luke Williams, Jonathan McDonald, Alastair Duncan and Stacey Gamble. Of course I couldn’t have done it without my good friend and the amazing music producer, Justin Martin, who helped shape our sound and also really define what it means to be part of DIRTYBIRD.

A lot has happened in the music industry over the last 10 years but I like to think we have stayed consistent and managed to enjoy the ride. The players may change but the theme stays the same; keep it fun and funky. So please enjoy this very special compilation of our music and here’s to another 10 years of DIRTYBIRD!

Much Love,
Claude VonStroke

BOILER ROOM IBIZA Sessions August 2014 /// Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, Kate Simko (live), Richy Ahmed, & wAFF ///

“After last year’s trip to Paradise for the Boiler Room Villa Takeovers, we couldn’t resist teaming up with Hot Creations head honcho and international superstar Jamie Jones for another Ibiza throwdown! One of last year’s gang returns in Richy Ahmed, but we have some fresh faces along, too: wAFF and Kate Simko, who will be bringing an enviable load of gear to warm things up. NYC’s finest sibling duo The Martinez Brothers are the cherry atop the bill, sure to bring some Bronx flavour to the party. Shouts to Ballantine’s as ever for the help!” – Boiler Room
